Ever wanted to experience what a day in the ABSA Cape Epic would be like? Here’s your chance. McGregor has been added to the 2018 ABSA Cape Epic route, and Ride2Nowhere has a splendid day of epic mountain biking fun instore.
The organizers have combined some of the best trials many riders have come to love in the annual Ride2Nowhere, 3 Day MTB stage race, and now introduce this brand new 1-DAY-Only event with spectacular Breede River valley scenery, hosted in what must arguably be the friendliest town in South Africa, McGregor.
If you are preparing for next year’s ABSA Cape Epic, this event should be a no-brainer, giving you the opportunity to test yourself on the route you’ll be riding. However, the Race2Nowhere is also open for all mountain biking enthusiasts who enjoy the excitement of true biking trials in one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa.
The McGregor Wines Race2Nowhere will take place on 9 December 2017 with the start and finish at McGregor Winery. There are two racing distances to choose from: The Epic Challenge of 112km including 2650m of climbing or the Mini Epic of 68km with 1550m of climbing.
With McGregor Wines coming on board as title sponsors they have also announced a total prize purse of R10,000 for the Epic Challenge distance equally distributed in the mens and ladies category. First place will receive R2500, 2nd place R1500 and 3rd place R1000.
The route includes proper mountain biking trails with a good combination of climbing, descending and single track fun with magnificent views over the McGregor valley and surroundings. “We’ll take you high (and far) up in the mountains, where it sometimes feels as if you are in the middle of ‘nowhere’.”
Riders can expect another great event with true McGregor hospitality. Race entry includes a special lunch prepared by the local farm ladies in town and Hammer Nutrition will ensure all riders stayed hydrated on route and as well as their special recoverite recovery drink when you cross the finish line. “Bring your friends and family along too, as there will be coffee and food stalls and of course some great wine tasting from McGregor Wines.”
